Discover Today's Hottest Jewellery Fashions
| |
Discover Today's Hottest Jewellery FashionsAlthough trends come and go, quality jewellery withstands the test of time. You can almost guarantee that if a popular jewellery fashion retires for a season, it will come back and when it does, you'll be ready for the trend. Some of the latest trends in jewellery include: Rose gold jewellery: If you're lucky enough to have the rose gold watch your great-grandmother passed down, start wearing it now. If not, invest in rose gold earrings, rosegold rings or a rose gold watch like the one adorning Sheryl Crow's wrist. Jewellery inspired by nature: As Bohemian and ethnic trends begin to fall by the wayside, refined jewellery with nature-inspired themes are beginning to take centre stage. Check out leaf jewellery, including leaf earrings, jewelled leaf brooches and leaf necklaces. Butterfly jewellery, especially butterfly brooches, continues to soar to the top of everyone's must-have jewellery list. Mariah Carey is a celebrity well known for her love of butterfly jewellery. Dark, moody stones: Dark jewellery is really hot. Check out stones that have an earthy, exotic look, such as black onyx, black jade, black opals, black pearls and black diamonds. Dangle earrings: Dangle earrings are the new “it” earrings. Long diamond dangle earrings can make a dramatic statement for the evenings, while more demure gold dangle earrings can work nicely for the daytime. Pearl dangle earrings can add a touch of glamour during the day, but perhaps you can save those extra-long shoulder sweepers for the evening. For that maximum ‘wow’ factor, combine your dangle earrings with a swept back hairdo or with a high-pony. Piles of pearls: Pearls can add that touch of class or make your look trendy. For a classic look, wear a strand of pearls. To get the hottest look, wear various types of pearls in different lengths. Mix strands of pink pearls, black pearls and freshwater pearls. Sharon Stone recently purchased beautiful black pearls in Tahiti. She also wears her freshwater pearls mixed with a strand of puka shells along with a white tank top and jeans.

 Follow Celebrity Jewellery Trends
| |
Follow Celebrity Jewellery TrendsMany jewellery trends start and gain momentum on the red carpet. Paying attention to the jewellery that adorns the celebrities can keep you in touch with the latest fashions. Dress up with diamondsMarilyn Monroe once sang, “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend", and many of today’s red carpet regulars will vouch for the importance of the bling-factor. Diamonds of every kind, from white diamonds, to yellow diamonds, to pink diamonds and blue diamonds, continue to dominate the Academy Awards, Grammys, Emmy awards, with everyone from Nicole Kidman to Reese Witherspoon wearing them. Heidi Klum received a wonderful birthday gift, a huge canary yellow diamond heart, from husband Seal. He bought it to match the canary engagement ring he gave her not long ago before they were married. Tom Cruise recently surprised Katie Holmes with a single-strand diamond choker. Not long after that, she started wearing a five-carat Edwardian-style diamond engagement ring. Also expect a return in popularity of diamond initials, stemming from Madonna wearing her diamond “M” at the Live 8 concert. Draw attention to your faceThe way to draw attention to your face is to adorn yourself with earrings, necklaces, and hair ornaments. Celebrities want to put the ‘bling’ where it shows and draw attention to their faces. Embrace bangle braceletsStars continue to wear bangle bracelets when they’re out and about. Kyra Sedgwick was recently seen with her right arm full of skinny gold bangle bracelets and her left with a single wide jade bangle. Lindsay Lohan also loves accessorising with lots of skinny gold bangles on her arm. Kate Hudson, and Jennifer Aniston wear wooden beads and bangles as part of the funky Boho style. Mix and match your jewelleryCelebrities can rarely escape the attention of the media, so like their clothes, they don’t want to be seen wearing the same jewellery too often. They think up of ways to mix-up their jewellery to make it look different. For example, at the 2004 Golden Globe awards, Nicole Kidman looked fantastic wearing a golden headband, encrusted with tiny crystal gems. Another celebrity had her hairdresser put a strand of pearls in her up-do. The popular pearl belt is often just a long strand of pearls. Cate Blanchett wore pink, yellow, lavender, and green sapphire daisy brooches in her hair. Other celebrities put crystal brooches or vintage rhinestone brooches on daytime bags to turn them into purses for evening-wear. The important thing is to have fun with your jewellery and recognise its versatility. With just one piece of jewellery and a clever idea, you can create a whole new look. | Back to top |
 Jewellery Shopping Checklist
| |
Jewellery Shopping ChecklistBuying jewellery can be an extremely fun and rewarding process, but it’s important for buyers to be consumer savvy as well. Buyers should read thoroughly through the listing description of jewellery items, before committing themselves to a purchase. Take care when sellers use valuations to indicate the amount of savings on a particular piece of jewellery. Such valuations may not always be correct for the market you are buying in. For example, a seller may suggest a diamond has been valued at $2,000, however in actual fact, if the diamond was resold onto the market, this may not actually reflect what the seller would receive for it. Ensure that you read the seller’s description to locate the material condition of the jewellery that you’re interested in buying. For example, if you’re interested in buying a gemstone, try to find out if the gemstone has been treated with extra coating or materials to improve its appearance (as opposed to an untreated gemstone). If you can’t locate this information, then it’s highly recommended that you ask the seller directly, so that you are able to get a better idea of the actual quality of the gemstone. Be aware of any jewellery terminology being used by sellers. Sellers may use common terms in their listing descriptions, which are known within the jewellery industry, but not commonly known or understood by consumers. For example, the word “synthetic” is actually another term for “artificial”. If you’re not sure of what a particular word means, then don’t hesitate to ask the seller directly or to seek external advice. Ensure that you confirm with sellers about the country of origin of a piece of jewellery. For example, if the seller describes a gemstone as a Tanzanian emerald, it’s best to check with the seller if the emerald has actually been mined in Tanzania rather than assuming it has been.
