Select the Perfect Laser Printer for You

Select the Perfect Laser Printer for You

When you want to print large volumes of documents or photos, laser printers can save you lots of time and money. Although laser printers are typically more expensive than ink-jet printers, they can produce more prints at faster speeds. Laser toner generally costs less per printed page as well than ink cartridges used by ink-jet printers.

You'll find a great selection of popular laser printer brands on eBay Singapore including: HP laser printers, Lexmark laser printers, Brother laser printers, Canon laser printers, Kyocera laser printers, Xerox laser printers, Minolta laser printers and Epson laser printers. Decide which type of laser printer that best fits your needs.

  • Black and white laser printers : If you intend to print off lots of documents rather than any photos, a basic monochrome laser printer is what you'll want. These laser printers will accurately reproduce precise black text.

  • Colour laser printers : Colour laser printers are great for printing off vivid photographs and graphics. Color laser printers combine toner for cyan (blue), magenta, yellow, and black (also known as CMYK toner), to produce colour print outs. Although they are very versatile, they are also more expensive than black and white laser printers.

  • Multifunction laser printers : If you have limited space in your home or office, think about buying youserlf an all-in-one (AIO) or multifunction laser printer. These compact printers combine the features of a fax machine, scanner, photocopier, and laser printer. However, despite their convenience, multifunction laser printers might not deliver the same level of quality as other types of laser printers.

                                            Laser printers

When you've decided what type of laser printer you need, find a laser printer that will support everyone in your home or small office.

  • Personal laser printers : Although personal laser printers have a smaller print capacity than network laser printers, they are ideal for individuals who print hundreds of pages on a daily basis, and for small offices with 10 employees or less. If you decide to network your printer, set up a print server on a dedicated computer or purchase an external print server.

  • Workgroup laser printers : Network a workgroup laser printer with a print server so that all the people in your workgroup can use the same printer. However, bear in mind that these don't offer the same speeds as a network-specific laser printer.

  • Network laser printers : A high-speed network laser printer connected directly to your local area network (LAN), will enable everyone in your office to use it.

Stock up on laser printer supplies

Your laser printer won't work efficiently by itself! You'll need to buy some handy printer accessories and supplies as well. eBay Singapore has a great range of laser printer supplies such as photo paper and standard paper, and replacement black laser toner or colour laser toner. Find printer cables and connectors as well to help power up your printer.

Evaluate Laser Printer Features

Evaluate Laser Printer Features

It's very important to make sure the laser printer you buy is compatible with your operating system. Other features of your laser printer you should also consider include:

  • Resolution: Resolution is a measure of how many dots, horizontally and vertically, that a printer produces per inch. Look for a minimum resolution of at least 600x600 dots per inch (dpi) for plain text, and look for higher resolution printers if you want premium-quality text and images. Generally you'll want resolution of around 1200x600 dpi to 5760x1440 dpi for photos.

  • Speed: Generally speaking, black and white laser printers print faster than colour laser printers. Although item listings may include a manufacturer’s product specifications, the actual performance of your printer will depend on the print settings you choose. In addition, printers that can print more pages per minute (ppm) tend to come with higher price tags attached.

  • Paper handling: Select a laser printer that is capable of printing on the types of paper you intend to use. Most printers will print text and images to letter-size paper, legal-size paper, and envelopes, depending on the print options you choose. Some printer models are able to print onto heavy stock, transparencies, and labels. Look into a printer that has several paper trays if you intend on frequently printing to different-sized paper. Many laser printers feature large paper trays for high-volume jobs. High-end printers common in most large offices, offer multiple output trays, collators, and automatic staplers. Also, if you tend to scan or copy multiple sheets of paper, look into a multifunction printer with an automatic sheet feeder (ASF), so you don't have to feed each sheet of paper individually.

  • Memory: Similar to your computer, printers have an onboard processor and memory. Greater memory means your laser printer can handle a greater number of print jobs without experiencing errors. Generally, your computer should do a great job lining up print jobs by itself, however buy a laser printer that supports memory upgrades if you've got any concerns.

  • Connections: Ensure your laser printer comes with the right cables to connect to your computer. Commonly, printers use USB 2.0, a parallel connection, or, in the case of network laser printers, a network connection. A parallel port should be sufficient for personal or small business needs. USB 2.0 offers high data transfer rates and lets you connect to more than one computer to the same port.
