The passionate and ambitious Nurita Harith has always had an ardour and eye for fashion and the arts. Her signature style is the use of interesting silhouettes. Before pursuing her Bachelor of Arts in Art & Design at Surrey Institute of Art in London, she was a fine arts major and had done sculptures before, which undoubtedly has moved her in developing her own individual style.

Her first show for the KLFW 2006 was looking at layers, and the use of brown hues against gold tones. Her look usually consists of soft layers and drapes, which can be simply described as feminine with a touch of masculinity. Nurita Harith is a designer that focuses on ready-to-wear designs and has recently branched out into custom-made designs. Her eye for detail is amazingly sharp and she tends to be a trendsetter, rather than to follow the crowd.

Tangoo

Tangoo started in 2002 when designers Eric Yeong and Moses Law decided to follow their dreams of setting up their own fashion brand.

The name Tangoo came about through both designers’ shared passion for the tango. Their early designs were deeply influenced by the tango, the intimate sensual Latin dance as well as the female costumes of the dancers. Everything tango-related was so natural they decided to incorporate the beloved dance into their eponymous brand.

Together, Eric and Moses developed Tangoo’s signature style which also incorporates Bohemian, Victorian and romantic influences. Their love for exotic cultures from India and Tibet also left strong influences. Its women’s collections exude femininity in every facet – from elegant to sexy to free-spirited – while the men’s collections portray charming, eclectic chic. The designers have a penchant for the dramatic tempered with elegance and refined glamour, appealing to trendsetters with a confident sense of style.

Tom Abang Saufi

Tom – Dato' Dayang Fatimah Abang Saufi -- is one of Malaysia's best loved fashion designers, known especially for her fusion of the modern with traditional ethnic designs of Southeast Asia. Tom started designing soon after finishing her fashion design course in London in 1986.

Tom designs with the modern woman in mind, although somewhat ironically eschewing where possible zips and buttons to allow the fabric to accentuate the contours of the human body for maximum style and minimal fuss. A carefree spirit and fun-loving approach to life are reflected in her saucy chic, bold use of colour and instinctive understanding of the tools of her trade.

The Tom Abang Saufi brand is easily recognizable and, despite its many imitators, distinctive and unique. The influence of her native Borneo is clearly discernable.

What makes TAS so different are the self-designed fabrics, which are chiefly hand-painted batik.
