How will eBay protect my privacy?

We work hard to make sure our programmes and policies meet a high standard of privacy for personal information. 

Ways in which we safeguard your privacy include:

We don’t sell or rent your personal information to third parties for their marketing purposes. We disclose your personal information only as outlined in our Privacy Policy or with your explicit consent.

We give you control, in My eBay preferences, over how we use your personal information or contact you.

We use sophisticated safeguards like firewalls, encryption and Secure Socket Layers to help protect your personal information from loss, theft, and unauthorised access and disclosure.

We use a variety of techniques to safeguard your ID and help protect data that is shared between users. For example:

  • Only the seller is allowed to view your user ID when you bid on an item. Other bidders see only anonymous IDs.

  • Your email address is disclosed only to members with whom you are involved in an eBay transaction.

  • You can contact other members only for the purpose of facilitating transactions.
