Confirming Your Identity with Your Credit Card

To confirm your identity* using credit card, you’ll need to:

Link and confirm your credit card to your PayPal account

  1. Login to your existing PayPal account or sign up for one.

  2. Authorise a small, refundable charge to your credit card to generate a four-digit PayPal code.

  3. Retrieve the 4-digit PayPal code from your credit card statement.

  4. Enter the 4-digit PayPal code into your PayPal account.

    See our detailed guide.

Link your eBay account to your PayPal account

  1. Go to ‘My eBay’ on www.ebay.com

  2. Click ‘Addresses’ under ‘My Account’ to link your accounts or view if they are already linked.

    See our detailed guide.

  • Confirming your identity is only required the first time you list an item. If you have not confirmed your identity with eBay and PayPal, you will not be permitted to list your items internationally.  There are 3 ways you can do this. Please see below.  Additionally, if you have started listing items, they will be saved for 30 days so you can return and complete them without having to start all over again.

  • Please note only electronic forms of payment are permitted on eBay.  This means either PayPal or merchant credit card accounts. Learn more about PayPal.

Did You Know?

There are two other ways you can confirm your identity:

  • Using your bank account (available for Singapore and Philippines residents)

Note: At this stage not all users can confirm their identity using their bank account. Only selected members will see this option in the identity confirmation flow.
We recommend that you use this option. It’s a quicker and easier way to confirm your identity. In one-step, it automatically links your PayPal account to your eBay account. All you need to do is securely, enter your bank information.  Plus, it’ll create a PayPal account for you, if you don’t have one.

  • Contacting customer support

You may also confirm your identity by contacting our Customer Support. This option requires you to provide documentation via email or fax.

For more information about making items available to buyers in other countries, see About Selling Internationally.
