Creating a Seller's Account

To sell on eBay, you need to register to become an eBay member and become a seller. Becoming a seller is free. During this one-time process, you will need to provide information to verify your identity and select how you will pay your seller fees.

To become a seller, you need to:

Step 1. Verify Your Identity

To help provide a safe environment for the eBay community, you need to provide a credit card to create a seller’s account. Your personal information is protected by eBay's Privacy Policy and encrypted by the industry standard SSL technology.

1. Providing your credit card information

Your card will not be charged unless you authorise eBay to use it to pay your seller fees, which are charged only when you list or sell items.

If your card is not accepted, try the following:

  • Make sure that your card number is correct.

  • Check your address - it must match the billing address on your monthly statement.

  • Verify your account has been activated.

  • Make sure your credit card account is in good standing.

  • Make sure your account does not have an Internet or phone order block.

  • Only use credit cards with VISA or MasterCard logos.

Contact your card issuer if none of the above helps.

2. Get verified with PayPal
If you wish to sell internationally, you will need to get PayPal Verified.

  • Sign up for a PayPal account or login to your existing account.

  • Verify your PayPal account by following these steps:

    1. Authorise a small, refundable charge to your credit card

    2. Get a four-digit code from your credit card statement

    3. Enter the four-digit code into your PayPal account.

Step 2. Link your eBay and PayPal Accounts

Sellers and buyers rank security as a primary concern when doing business online, and linking your eBay and PayPal accounts will be able to authenticate your identity, ensuring a safer and more secure trading environment.

To link your accounts, login to your eBay account:

  1. Go to My eBay on www.ebay.com.

  2. Click Addresses under My Account to link your accounts or view if they are already linked.

Step 3. Select Your Payment Method

When becoming a seller, you need to select how you pay your seller fees.

You can pay your seller fees using any of the following payment methods:

  • Credit Card (monthly and one-time payments)

  • Wire transfer from your bank account (one-time payments) Note: only for eBay Singapore-registered users

For more details, see Paying Seller Fees

Step 4. Offer PayPal as a payment method

To keep eBay a safe place for both buyers and sellers, sellers who register after January 19, 2007 and want to sell internationally are required to offer PayPal or an approved merchant account as an accepted safe payment method for their items.

PayPal allows you to accept credit card payments online from your buyers. You can sign up for PayPal before you list your first item for sale, or you can sign up when you list your first item.
