Completing The SaleKeeping Great DSRs While Growing Internationally
Here's the wrap on international considerations for keeping great detailed seller ratings while selling to the world.

Tips to Get Great DSRs

Item as described
Provide global sizes and product specifications
  • Include foreign sizes for clothes.
  • Use standard measurement units of your key target market.
  • Some electronics and media may not work in all countries due to voltage, plugs or formats.
Research trade restrictions
  • Certain items cannot be traded in certain countries.
  • Please review each eBay site's Prohibited Items list and mention limitations that apply in your listings.
Communication
Communicate more with international buyers
  • Go the extra mile to understand their concerns and provide answers.
  • Consider having a separate email and FAQs for international customers.
Set expectations about response times
  • Specify your location and hours of availability in your listing.
  • Use eBay's Time Zone Calculator to plan for time differences.
Take care with terms and avoid slang
  • Keep descriptions clear and easy to understand for all international buyers.
Include an international buyers section in your listing
  • Featuring international postage, policies and other relevant details in one distinct area can help attract more buyers and minimise confusion.
Postage time
Set expectations about delivery times
  • Get estimated transit times from your postage service and mention them in your listings.
Offer a selection of postage services
  • Some buyers may be willing to pay more for faster postage. Ensure you offer them the choice.
Offer trackable postage services for higher priced items
  • Buyers feel more confident when you offer electronic delivery confirmation.
Postage and Handling Charges
Specify destinations and postage rates
  • Clearly specify regions or countries where you despatch to and your international postage rates.
When listing on eBay.com, use the eBay Shipping Calculator
  • The Shipping Calculator automatically varies postage costs depending on a buyer's location.
Explain customs, duties and tax responsibilities
  • Let international buyers know they may be responsible for these additional costs.
  • Highlight the possibility of delay if clearance issues arise.

Avoid Low DSRs

Quality is not a result of how big you are, but your dedication to doing right by your customers. Our research shows that low DSRs are a more accurate measure of the quality of buyer experience provided by eBay sellers. That's why eBay is evolving the way we measure quality, focusing more on how many low DSRs1s and 2sa seller receives than on a seller's DSR averages.

  • The 1s and 2s a seller receives are tracked for each DSR: Item description, communication, shipping time, and shipping and handling charges. Low instances of 1s and 2s will be the main quality requirement for the new Top-rated seller status and the PowerSeller programand even continuing to sell on eBay. Sellers are encouraged to focus more on avoiding 1s and 2s than on getting more 5s or higher averages.
  • You can see a monthly snapshot now of your standing toward the new low DSR requirement through a link at the top of your Seller Dashboard.
