Shill bidding is when a seller, or someone associated with a seller, bids on that seller’s own item. It includes bidding by individuals with a level of access to the seller’s item information not available to the general Community. These bids can artificially increase the price or desirability of the item, and damage buyers' faith in the integrity and fairness of the marketplace. Shill Bidding is not allowed on eBay. You should be aware that it may also constitute fraudulent and misleading or deceptive behaviour, which is unlawful under various consumer protection and criminal laws. eBay will cooperate fully with any law enforcement inquiry into shill bidding on eBay.
Sally is selling her car on eBay. She’s worried that her car might sell for less than the amount she hopes for. To make sure that no bidder can win her car for less than the price she has in mind, Sally uses another eBay account to place bids on her own car, raising the price to what she feels is fair.

Is Sally’s bidding on her own car allowed on eBay?
a. Yes, because Sally can do whatever she wants with her own property.
b. Yes, because Sally isn’t forcing other members to bid on her car.
c. No, because Sally’s bidding on her own car violates the eBay Shill Bidding Policy.
d. Yes, because Sally placed the highest bid on her car.
