eBay's
Links Policy |
|
|
|
What
is the links policy? |
|
Our User
Agreement policy (section 5.1) only allows listings
to contain "...text descriptions, graphics, pictures and other
content relevant to the sale of that item." This policy prohibits
links to Web sites, Home pages or any page that has items for
sale outside of eBay. Such links may be allowed on the About
Me page. |
|
Why
is eBay limiting links from the View Item page? |
|
The View Item page is designed for the
description of a specific item, not for general business advertisements.
Allowing links to sites off eBay is detrimental to sellers that
are listing only on eBay and counting on that traffic. The purpose
of this policy is to focus on the content of the View Item page,
which is to describe a specific item, not a seller's business
or other items. |
|
How
does eBay define a link? |
|
A link is any mechanism used to take
you off the eBay site, whether static or clickable. This applies
to any format used for a link that includes, but is not limited
to, text, images, logos or icons. |
|
May
I link to my Web site or Home page from the View Item page? |
|
No, you may not link to your Home page
or Web site from the View Item page. |
|
What
if my Home page contains a further description of the item? |
|
Unless the Home page is only a further
description of the item listed, no link will be allowed. Section
5.1 of the User
Agreement, stipulates that the item description must
be contained in the View Item Page. |
|
What
links may I have on my View Item page? |
|
You may have one link to a page that
further describes the item being sold in that listing, links
to your eBay or Half.com listings, links to your About Me page
(in addition to the About Me icon already provided by eBay)
and links that provide credits to third parties. |
|
What
links may I have on my About Me page? |
|
You may link to your own Web store from
your About Me page. However, you may not directly offer any
non-eBay merchandise on the About Me page itself. |
|
|
|
Why
am I allowed to link to listings under my other User IDs from
the View Item page but groups of eBay sellers are not allowed
to do so? |
|
|
You may include "Links to your eBay
(including your eBay Store) or Half.com listings." Listings
that are connected to either the same person or corporation
are considered "your" listings as they belong to the same entity.
Listings that belong to various eBay members are not "your"
listings and therefore are not considered permissible links.
