Our Programme |
Q: What is the eBay Affiliate Programme? |
A: It’s a community of webmasters, Internet developers and entrepreneurs who earn commissions for
promoting eBay. Affiliates earn commissions when they send new active users to eBay. |
Q: Why should I join and become an eBay Affiliate? |
A: Joining the Affiliate Programme offers you a free and easy way to make money for driving successful
transactions or new active users to eBay. You’ll also be adding value to the content of your site by
integrating relevant eBay text links, banners and logos. We handle all of the link creation and reporting.
You cash the check! Join now with either Commission Junction or Zanox and start making money. |
Q: Is the eBay Affiliate Programme free? |
A: Yes! There is absolutely no cost to become an eBay Affiliate. Join now with either Commission
Junction or Zanox and start earning money today. |
Q: How do I register? |
A: First, sign up with either of our affiliate partners, Commission Junction or Zanox. Payout structure
through both partners is exactly the same, but they have different graphics available to promote eBay
on your site. After you have completed the application, the relevant partner will then contact you with
information on how to get started. It’s easy, fast, and free. |

Earnings/ Compensation |
Q: What is the payment structure for the eBay Affiliate Programme? |
A: See a complete description of our payment structure. |
Q: How often are affiliates paid? |
A: Affiliates get paid every month. After each calendar month, you receive a report to determine the
total amount of revenue and new active users sent from your site. We’ll pay you accordingly on a
monthly basis. |
Q: Do eBay affiliates have any payment options? |
A: You can collect earnings either by check (which will be mailed to you) or direct deposit. |
Q: If I operate more than one web site, can I track them separately and still receive a single
payment? |
A: Yes. You can operate multiple websites and URLs with a single Commission Junction or Zanox
account. |
Q: What does an "ACRU" mean? |
A: An "ACRU" is a new eBay active user. It is defined as an individual who:
(a) Registers for eBay for the first time
(b) Confirms his or her registration with an eBay-supplied password sent by email
(c) Then goes to eBay and places a bid or uses Buy-It-Now (BIN) to purchase an item within 30 days of
their original registration.
The Programme is not session based - users do not need to click, register and make a bid or use BIN
during the same visit. They can come back and finish the registration process within 30 days.
Q: Once visitors click from my website to eBay, how long will they be tracked (when do their
cookies expire)? |
A: Cookies have two distinct expiration dates correlating with our "Winning Bid" and ACRU tiers.
"Winning Bids": |
Cookies expire 7 days after the cookie is placed. During this period of time "Winning Bids" will be compensated according to our pricing structure. |
ACRUs: |
Cookies expire 30 days after the cookie is placed. In this period of time a user must
become a confirmed registered user and place a bid or use BIN to purchase an item
on eBay. |

Eligibility |
Q: Are all websites and businesses eligible to become eBay affiliates? |
A: While we'd like everyone to promote eBay, there are cases where we can’t allow certain sites to
participate in our Affiliate Programme. We evaluate all affiliate applications and notify each applicant of
acceptance or rejection. We may reject any affiliate application if we determine, at our sole discretion,
that a site is unsuitable for the Programme. Unsuitable sites include those that:
- Promote sexually explicit materials
- Promote violence
- Promote illegal activities
- Promote discrimination based on race, sex, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation, or
age
- Include "eBay" or variations or misspellings thereof in their domain names
- Otherwise violate intellectual property rights
If we reject your application, you’re welcome to reapply to the Programme at any time. Also note that if we
accept your application and your site is determined, at our sole discretion, to be unsuitable for the
Programme at a later date, we may terminate your affiliate membership. See Commission Junction's
publisher agreement or Zanox’s publisher agreement. |
Q: Am I eligible to participate in the Affiliate Programme if I reside outside the United States? |
A: Yes. We accept applications from affiliates based outside the US. |
Q: Can I participate in other affiliate Programmes? |
A: Yes. Our Programme is non-exclusive. |
Q: Does eBay require a business license to participate in the Programme? |
A: No. Our affiliates may be either an individual or a formal business/company. Upon registration,
individuals must enter their Social Security Number in lieu of a Tax ID/Business License. Corporations
or companies are required to provide a Tax ID number. |
Multiple Applications |
Q: Can I apply to the Affiliate Programme more than once? |
A: Yes. You can have multiple sites as an eBay Affiliate. However, we recommend that you track and
operate numerous sites within a single affiliate account. This allows you to receive a single, consolidated
commission check and, more importantly, reach higher tiers within our payment structure. |
Creating/Setting up Links |
Q: May I use the eBay logo or content on my site? |
A: Yes. As an affiliate, you’ll have access to a wide variety of buttons, banners and text links after
signing up for the Programme and are welcome to use any of these. However, you may not alter or modify
any banners or buttons without obtaining prior written permission from eBay and the eBay Affiliate
Team. (You must also secure permission before using any third party's copyrighted materials.) |
Q: How do I create links? |
A: Once you’re registered, you'll be provided with standard links in the Commission Junction or Zanox
interface. |
Q: How many eBay links or banners can I display? |
A: You can place and display as many links (both text and banner) as you choose. In fact, we
encourage affiliates to place multiple eBay links and banners on their sites. |
Q: Where should I place the links on my site? |
A: Place links where they’re easy for visitors to find. They also get more activity when they’re above the
fold on the page. Some areas you may want to place your links include your homepage, your navigation
bar and any other high traffic areas. When links are easily accessible, visitors will be more likely to click
and place bids. |
Q: How often should I update my links? |
A: Update links frequently. We’re constantly adding new graphics and links to help you meet the
interests of your visitors. Look out for eBay Affiliate Newsletters which feature new banners and
promotions as well as marketing tips. |
Q: Can I place links on multiple websites? |
A: We recommend adding links to each of your websites. The links will be tracked through Commission
Junction or Zanox. All of your sites will be listed under your one account, and you can track each site
with a different PID (Publisher ID). |

Reporting |
Q: Can I monitor and track my transaction and performance metrics? |
A: Yes. Learn about how reporting works in the eBay Affiliate Programme.
Q: How will eBay know that the registrations and bids came from my site? |
A: A cookie is placed when users click on any of the eBay banners or links provided by Commission
Junction or Zanox. Users are then tracked for two distinct time periods. Activity leading to ACRUs are
compensated during a 30 day window. You’ll receive commissions if users click from your site and
completes any of the above transactions during that time. |
Q: Will my reports be updated when I reach a new pricing tier? |
A: During the month, your reports are based on the first tier. Once the calendar month is over, your
commissions are adjusted according to your achieved tier. Please allow some time for the reports to
reflect your monthly earnings. |
Q: What is a PID? |
A: A PID (or Publisher Identification) is a tracking code delivered by Commission Junction to identify the
traffic you drive. It is critical for tracking and payout. Similarly, Zanox uses a system called Partner
Identification.
To find your PID:
1. Log into your CJ Account Manager
2. Go to the “Account Tab”
3. Go the “Web Site Settings” subtab where you can view all PIDs.
You can create more PIDs if you want to segment your campaign. To add a new PID, click on the button
“Add a New Web Site.” |
Q: What is an OID? |
A: OID (Order Identification) can be seen in Commission Junction Account Manager Detail reports. OID
can give you a lot of details about each transaction, and can be used to understand and optimize a
campaign’s performance. Similarly, this can be seen in Zanox’s Advanced Statistics Report.
For example, an OID may appear as:
1235861;1234567890;71211;20060228;20060305;2;17.98;000US;108678540
After reports are downloaded, OID field will appear in the following structure: eBay User ID; eBay Item
ID; Leaf Category ID; Click Date; Bid Date; Quantity Sold; Total GMV; 000US (or 000EX); Record ID
In this example, the OID indicates that for item ID 1234567890, the winning bidder bought two of this
item for a final selling price of $17.98 ($8.99 each). Please note that the selling price does not include
shipping. |
