Summer 2010 Updates

More rewards for sharing your product pictures

As catalog products have grown in popularity on eBay, so too has the need for original, high quality product images. To ensure that the eBay product catalog continues to grow and meet seller demand, a new incentive program is being launched in July.

HIGHLIGHTS

Increasing rewards. Last year, eBay introduced a program through which sellers could submit their own product photos for consideration to be included in the eBay product catalog. In return, sellers whose photos were selected received an attribution and a link to their My World page on the product details page for that particular item. Now we're increasing those rewards. Starting in July, if your photo is selected to be in the catalog, you'll receive 5 free Subtitle credits.

TAKE ACTION
  • If you've opted out of the program in the past, you can opt back in whenever you like. Just go to the Account tab in My eBay, select Site Preferences, then Selling Preferences and follow the instructions beside ”Share your photos.” See detailed instructions .

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why does eBay want my product pictures?
Photos are important for the convenience of sellers who list with catalog content (product details) and for buyers to make the right purchase decision. As a result, we've been asking eBay users to contribute their own pictures of items to eBay's catalog of product pictures.

Since September 2009, more than 16,000 images contributed by eBay sellers have been chosen to be part of the catalog in exchange for attribution and a link to the seller's My World page each time the picture is used on a product details page. You can opt out of this program if you choose not to have your photos considered for inclusion.

What is changing with this program?
Beginning in July, eBay will notify you via email if one of your pictures is selected for inclusion in our catalogs. You'll have the chance to opt out at that point if you like. Plus, as of July, we're offering 5 free Subtitle credits for each picture of yours that we select.

Additionally, you can opt out of this program at any time. But we may continue to use any photos we select for inclusion in the eBay catalogs while you're opted in, even if you later opt out of the program.

What if I change my mind after submitting a picture for possible inclusion?
If you are not interested in participating in this program, you can opt out by following these instructions . If you are opted into this program and if eBay selects one of your pictures for inclusion in our catalog, you will be notified by email. You can then opt out if you don't want eBay to use that picture. If you do not opt out at that point, that picture will be used in the catalog at our discretion.

What do I get in return if eBay chooses one of my photos for inclusion in the catalog?
Currently, if eBay chooses one of your photos to represent a product in our product catalog, you get an attribution on the product details page. Your user ID and a link to your My World page is displayed whenever your photo appears on a product details page. This can give you extra exposure to a larger audience of shoppers.

As an additional incentive, starting in July you will also receive 5 free Subtitle credits for each of your pictures that we select.

How do I claim my free Subtitle credits?
You do not have to take any action. Instead, the credits will be automatically applied to your account and displayed in your billing statement. Please note that the credits will have effective start and end dates. For example, your free Subtitle credits may come into effect on July 15 and expire on October 15. Please make sure to use the credits during this period.

Please note that the credits will only be applied to your account if you do not withdraw your image from consideration when eBay sends you the confirmation email mentioned above.

Is the new incentive retroactive?
No. The 5 free Subtitle credits are only available for photos selected for consideration after July 1, 2010.
