2010 June Seller Update

Summer 2010 Updates

Updates to payment and leave feedback reminder emails sent to buyers

Providing top quality communication is critical to buyer satisfaction. With this in mind, eBay is introducing some small but important changes to the emails that are sent out to buyers at different points in the transaction.

HIGHLIGHTS

More control for sellers over Payment Reminder email. Many sellers have told us they prefer to manage their own reminders to buyers to pay. Sellers will now have the ability to opt out of having this eBay-generated email sent to their buyers.

Standard Feedback reminder email. Because the Feedback system has such an important role on eBay in measuring seller quality of service, the email reminding buyers to leave Feedback will be sent by eBay as a consistent part of all transactions. Sellers will not be able to customize or opt out of this email.

TAKE ACTION

  • If you want to opt out of your buyers receiving the automated Payment Reminder email, follow the steps below.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What's changing with the eBay Payment Reminder emails for buyers?
Starting in June, you will be able to opt out of sending the eBay Payment Reminder email to buyers.

How do I opt out of the Payment Reminder email?
You can opt out of the Payment Reminder email by following these steps:

1. Go to My eBay
2. Click on the “Account” tab.
3. Choose Site Preferences
4. Choose Selling Preferences, then scroll down to “Manage communications with buyers” to change your status to “opt out”.

Important: If you opt out of the Payment Reminder email and use the Unpaid Item Assistant, please be proactive in communicating with your buyer after a purchase. This could include an invoice after the sale, followed by your own payment reminder email two days later. The notice of an Unpaid Item dispute should never be the first piece of communication a buyer receives from the seller regarding a transaction.

To see an example of the eBay Payment Reminder email that eBay sends, follow these steps in Selling Manager:
1. Go to My eBay

What changes will I see in my Selling Manager / Selling Manager Pro emails?
Starting in mid-June 2009, the option to automatically send the Selling Manager Feedback Reminder email will be removed. If you are a subscriber to Selling Manager or Selling Manager Pro, you can still use this email; however, you'll have to send it manually.

eBay will send a Feedback Reminder email to your buyers automatically after the transaction ends if no feedback has been left. This email will be non-customizable. When eBay sends the Feedback Reminder email, you will be able to see this entry in the Selling Manager / Selling Manager Pro email logs function.

eBay will also be removing the option to automatically send the Selling Manager Winning Buyer Notification email for Selling Manager and Selling Manager Pro subscribers pages since eBay sends an existing email when an item is sold.
